Ghost Girl
I’ve been doodling some modern day monsters and I think I might make them into a series. Here is my favorite so far. She is a ghost girl and is the epitome of a restless spirit. She is always worried about something, very anxious, and is constantly concerned about her appearance. She even carries around a pocket mirror to check her complexion….She misses the days when she could tan.

PixArt Salute to Pixar Heroines
The Pixar Times had an open call for artists to submit their work for the “PixArt Salute to Pixar Heroines” to celebrate Brave and its first leading female character. Artists were asked to draw their favorite Pixar Heroine, so I drew Violet Parr because when The Incredibles came out, she was the one I related to, being 13 and an awkward teenager like her. I wanted to illustrate the scene where she is given her mask by her mom and starts to realize her duty as a superhero and her true power.

Laika/House Creative Challenge: June 2012
For June's Laika/House Creative Challenge, the concept was to create monsters at the beach! I wanted to do something different and I wanted the beach experience to be something only monsters could take part in. I created this 1950s style family of fire serpent monsters who are taking their annual trip to the lava sea!

Monsters!
Bummed beetle girl who wears Lolita fashion
Boar boy who wears a t-shirt and plays with yo-yo
Friday night elf girl who wears a trench coat (I only just realized that its Saturday Night Fever and not Friday Night Fever...which is why I had her looking 70s Disco...I thought I was being sooooo clever!)
Mammoth seahorse boy who wears a jean jacket
Stressed vampire girl who wears thigh high socks
I recently found out about this Monster Generator (http://www.generatorland.com/usergenerator.aspx?id=2339). It gives you random ideas for characters! Its really fun for when you're in an art rut and need inspiration.

Jack Sparrow and Ariel Outfit Illustration
A couples outfit of Jack Sparrow and Ariel, based off the scandalous backstage Disneyland photo of a costumed Jack and Ariel kissing. For this drawing I wanted to break away from my “Disneybound” style and give it the look of illustrations from old fairy tales and adventure novels, with a bit of a comic book feel as well. I wanted to make this drawing really epic, because what isn’t epic about forbidden love?

Kid Character Designs

Some kid character designs using blues, oranges, and yellows for the color pallet for their clothing. I especially like how the boy came out. His daddy is a fire fighter and he is out on a call to put out a fire so the boy is sitting on the sidewalk outside of his house waiting for his dad to come home safe and sound, but he’s still worried about his dad’s safety.

A Sketch

In between classes today I had an hour to spare so I went on tumblr and I came across a vintage photo of a young actress playing Peter Pan. It was such a beautiful photo and just the expression on her face was that of shyness, intrigue, and innocence upon entering through the Darling’s nursery window. I just had to draw her and as I was drawing this song came on my iPod that fit this drawing so well. I just felt really emotional and really into the process of drawing this young girl portraying one of the most amazing heroes in literature. It was one of those moments when I remembered why it was that I love doing what I do. Thought I’d share that with you :)

March 2012 Laika Creative Challenge Submission
For this month's challenge, Laika had us create a character that resembled Spring! I came up with this Spring sprite. She is the youngest of the Season Sprites, probably around 6 years old. Having been asleep for so long under Winter's blanket of snow she is eager to wake up and get started on preparing spring time for the world. Here in Oregon, the spring weather varies and can change dramatically within the hour, the Spring sprite is the same way. Her elemental powers change given the mood she is in, and being a hyperactive 6 year old, her moods can change very quickly. When she is feeling content she sports green skin and a green leafy cape and plant life blooms at her slightest touch. When she is feeling sad or melancholy, she turns very blue and rain falls from the sky as she cries. The amount of rain depends on her degree of sadness. When her pet deer passed away from old age, we experienced a week long downpour with several thunderstorms. When Spring is at her happiest her body glows the brightest yellow, and her happiness allows her to float up into the air and dry the world with her warm sunshine. Spring is never very happy when she has to give up her reign of the season and has to pass on that power to her older brother, Summer. She tends to pout around the world until its her turn to be the lead Season Sprite again.
Another Warm Up That I'm Proud Of!
